2027 Japanese Government (MEXT) Postgraduate Scholarship: applications are now open

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities.

This postgraduate programme is:

  • For a minimum period of 18 months
  • For UK graduates who want to pursue independent research or enrol on a degree course in Japan,
  • Students with nationalities other than British should contact the Japanese Embassy in their home country for application procedures. The list of Japanese diplomatic missions can be found at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan website.
  • To study any subject as long as it is relevant to your expertise or field of previous study
  • Not dependent on Japanese language ability (except for certain courses

Who can apply?

You’re welcome to apply if you…

  • Identify as a woman
  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree at a university in the EU, the UK, Switzerland, or a Balkan country

And

  • Are studying computer science or a closely related field (such as computer engineering, software engineering, artificial intelligence, informatics, or a comparable program).
